From Inman: Balancing real estate website design and content

Rob Hahn wrote a great article published today on Inman.com about what's more important between design and content on a real estate website.

Obviously, both are very important. But Rob notes that several real estate websites have loads of content, but look "like something put together by an eighth-grader interested mostly in spamming and planting Trojan horse viruses on the visitor's computer." He also notes that good design will lead website visitors to content, but bad design will drive them away, no matter how good the website content is.

Design is definitely the most important aspect of the real estate website, if for no other reason than it is the first thing that leaves an impression on a person when he visits the website.

Functionality-wise, the property search is the most important element to a real estate website, as it is what most consumers are on the site to see.

But content is very important too. As Rob notes, it boosts search engine optimization, can help establish yourself or company as a local expert, and helps to keep visitors on the website longer.

The key is building a real estate website that correctly balances great real estate website design with a comprehensive, easy-to-use property search, and integrates well-written content for search engine optimization and robust community information.

New 'Photo Portfolio Offers' system designed to increase real estate leads

Delta Media Group launched its new Photo Portfolio Offers system today for all real estate company websites and Upgrade real estate agent websites.

The Photo Portfolio Offers system is designed to prompt real estate website visitors to create a My Home Finder account and save the listing they are viewing. The prompt page opens on the third photo the website visitor views, for every third listing he visits.

The Photo Portfolio Offers system is linked to Delta Media Group's Real Estate Lead Management system, and new portfolios created through the system are distributed as new leads, via E-mail or instant text message notification. All leads from the Photo Portfolio Offers system are filtered into the 'New Leads' page of the DeltaNet, and identified as "Photo Portfolio" leads opposed to Showing Request or E-mail leads.

The Photo Portfolio Offers system is one of several new systems Delta Media Group has created to generate more leads and portfolio accounts on Delta Media Group real estate websites. Contact Delta Media Group for more details, or view Delta Media Group's blog entry about the Photo Portfolio Offers system.

From LORE: First-time home buyer tax credit marketing tip

Keeping on point of my earlier blog topic about the first-time home buyer tax credit, LORE Magazine has a good tip today.

LORE recommended, for those real estate agents and brokers working in areas where the residents make too much to take advantage of the first-time home buyer tax credit, to help them understand how they can use the credit to help their children, grandchildren, or other family members purchase their first home.

Good news for real estate market as existing home sales increase in May

Existing home sales increased by 2.4 percent in May, marking the first time home sales have increased in back-to-back months since September 2005.

USA Today just published an article on the increase, which is smaller than projected, but still positive news for the real estate industry.

Initial market forecasts showed a pace of 4.81 million homes sold this year. That number had been revised to 4.66, and May's boost of existing home sales increases it to 4.77 million units. Check Delta Media Group's blog for more details.

The existing home sales increase also helped decrease the listing inventory, which had previously not decreased in months that home sales increased because more people listed homes for sale.

Looking to take advantage of the existing home sales increase? We can help. Click here to contact Delta Media Group for more information.

Potentially expanding the first-time home buyer tax credit

A couple weeks ago I blogged about reports that new legislation could bump the first-time home buyer tax credit to $15,000.

According to a USA Today story, there are three pieces of legislation on the table that could potentially expand the current first-time home buyer tax credit. Delta Media Group took a closer look at the proposals in its company blog.

The proposals range from bumping the current $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit to a $15,000 tax credit for all home buyers. One House bill would extend the current credit to June 2010 and provide a $3,000 credit to homeowners who refinance. Another would extend the credit to all home buyers through 2010.

Delta Media Group launches 'My Home Finder Offers' upgrade

Delta Media Group just launched its latest real estate website and lead management upgrade: 'My Home Finder Offers.'

The My Home Finder Offers system prompts real estate website visitors to create a My Home Finder portfolio account when they have entered property search criteria in a real estate website. Visitors can create the account right there, or click to ignore the message and register later.

Delta Media Group launches 'Share My Leads' system

Yesterday, Delta Media Group launched its new Share My Leads system, one of three new systems Delta Media Group announced last week.

The Share My Leads system is primarily aimed to help real estate agent teams share their leads for better customer follow-up and communication. An agent can turn on the Share My Leads system through their DeltaNet lead management system, and choose which agents to share leads with, and whether to share processed leads, unprocessed leads, or both.

Delta Media Group added a column in the Leads and Contacts management databases showing, for each customer, who the lead initially was assigned to. That way agents can quickly detect if a lead is their own, or assigned to another agent they may work with.

The Share My Leads system allows other members of agent teams to instantly access customer information and follow up with a customer if that customer may have initially submitted their lead to an agent that has scheduling obligations. It allows other agent team members to quickly follow up with the customer so as to more effectively capture the lead and assist the customer in his or her inquiry. Delta Media Group analyzes Bing's website traffic contributions

Delta Media Group took a look at Bing, Microsoft's new search engine, yesterday.

Today, the real estate website and lead management developer has released a blog entry about Bing's visitor contributions to the real estate company websites it builds.

In its two weeks since go-live, Bing is already sending a significant amount of customers to real estate websites. In many cases, Bing has sent more traffic to real estate websites in two weeks than some of the real estate portals have sent in the past four.

See Delta Media Group's analysis of real estate website traffic from Bing. If you're looking to improve your real estate search engine optimization, Delta Media Group can help. Contact me at scutright@deltagroup.com for more info.

New home construction jumps by 17.2 percent in May

Housing construction jumped by 17.2 percent in May, the Associated Press reported this morning.

The increase in new homes construction is the largest increase in three months, and better than economist projections. Building permit applications also increased by four percent, marking another good sign for the housing industry.

The Associated Press article notes:

"The better-than-expected rebound in construction was the latest sign that the prolonged slump in housing is coming to an end, which would be good news for the broader economy.

The current recession — the longest since the Great Depression — was triggered by a collapse in the housing market that led to soaring loan losses and a banking system crisis. A healthy home market is needed to support an economic recovery."

Microsoft's Bing and how it relates to real estate

You may have heard some of the recent talk about Microsoft's new search engine, Bing.

Microsoft tags Bing as a "decision engine," though the search element of the site is similar to other search engines in that it ultimately uses an algorithm to determine the most pertinent websites to a specific visitor's search term or phrase.

With 60 percent of all Internet searches in the United States, Google is expected to remain the top search engine in the country for some time. But, powered by Microsoft's pocket book, Bing could cover some ground and become an alternative search engine, sending potential customers to your real estate website.

Delta Media Group took a closer look at Bing this morning on the Delta Media Group blog. If you're looking to improve the search engine optimization on your real estate website, I suggest you do too.

Delta Media Group recently launched its real estate search engine optimization platform, available now. Contact Sean Cutright for further details at scutright@deltagroup.com.

Delta Media Group adds MLS search feature

Real estate website administrators can now use Delta Media Group's "Edit Office" page to find hidden MLS ID numbers for office listings if MLS's do not make them public.

Some MLS's have hidden MLS IDs on listings that differ from the public MLS ID to that listing. It was difficult for real estate website admins to locate the corresponding ID if searching for the listing, because the MLS's would not share that information.

Delta Media Group has added a MLS ID search tool that allows admins to search for hidden IDs by the listing's public ID. The search tool also works for public IDs.

Delta Media Group's blog
has more information on the new search tool.
