Rob Hahn wrote a great article published today on Inman.com about what's more important between design and content on a real estate website.
Obviously, both are very important. But Rob notes that several real estate websites have loads of content, but look "like something put together by an eighth-grader interested mostly in spamming and planting Trojan horse viruses on the visitor's computer." He also notes that good design will lead website visitors to content, but bad design will drive them away, no matter how good the website content is.
Design is definitely the most important aspect of the real estate website, if for no other reason than it is the first thing that leaves an impression on a person when he visits the website.
Functionality-wise, the property search is the most important element to a real estate website, as it is what most consumers are on the site to see.
But content is very important too. As Rob notes, it boosts search engine optimization, can help establish yourself or company as a local expert, and helps to keep visitors on the website longer.
The key is building a real estate website that correctly balances great real estate website design with a comprehensive, easy-to-use property search, and integrates well-written content for search engine optimization and robust community information.
